Stage 2A
Period of Catechumenate
Catechesis
The period of Catechumenate is perhaps the longest period in the entire RCIA process. It is during this period that the Individual, now known as Catechumen, will learn more about the Catholic faith. Catechesis takes up the majority of the time during this period. Catholic teachings on the following topics could be covered during this period:
· God and Creation
· Knowing the person of Jesus and his works
· Reading the Holy Bible
· The Holy Spirit
· The Church and Church History
· Understanding the Sacraments
· Death, Judgment and Eternity
· Christian Morality
· Mary and the Saints
· The Creed
· The Lord's Prayer
The Rites
Some of the Rites carried out during this period includes:
· Minor Exorcism - "a prayer that acknowledges the darkness or void of sin, calling upon the very presence of God to breathe life where there is only death". [The RCIA process, Transforming The Church by Thomas Morris]
· Anointing of the Catechumens
· Presentation of the Bible

The following may also be organized to assist the Catechumens to integrate and be familiar with the Catholic Christians way of living:
· Home Sessions
· Walk-about and familiarization of the Parish
· Canteen & other works of Charity
· Talks by different Church's ministry
· Visits to other Churches or Homes
· Retreats
