Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
“GO therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you” Mt 28:19-20
Stage 1
Period of Evangelization (Pre-Catechumenate or Inquiry phase)
The period of evangelization is a period of inquiry, a time when an individual wants to inquire more about the Catholic Faith and about the Catholic Christians community. The individual could be drawn into wanting to know more about the faith for various reasons. This is a period of searching of asking questions before committing oneself to want to know more about the person of Jesus and living out the Christian Faith. During this period the individual is known as an Inquirer.
Rite of Acceptance The Rite of Acceptance is the first public rituals celebrated in the RCIA. After a period of inquiries, the inquirer now declares to the congregation that he/she wants to further his/her journey towards full initiation with the Catholic Church. During the Rite, usually celebrated with the Church Community during Mass, the whole assembly together with the sponsors offers their support and witness to these men and women.
The Rite of Acceptance ends the period of Pre-Catechumenate and continue to
Stage 2 of their journey, thus the individual is now known as Catechumen.
